Cuento de Cozumel
I went to another island in Mexico, this time it was to Cozumel, which is still in the Estado de Quintana Roo. Hot and relaxing at the same time, seeing the sights that we could get in less than a week was well worth it. I was so excited because I have never been to a cenote before. In order to get there we had to take an off-road jeep, then a ATV, and then hike a little, all to find out I could have just taken the back road! Womp womp, but we paid for scenic adventure version, lol so fun either way! Our guide was telling us that all the cenotes on the island were connected and it was what the Mayans would think of as the connection to the underworld, so other cenotes in Mexico would have some skeletons from the past. However, since Cozumel was so close to Isla Mujeres, which is another place I have been to before, it was kept sacred, so no skulls this time x_x. This was also the most history-heavy trip I learned so much about the Mayans and how resourceful and advanced in technology they were always using their climate and how connected their technology was to working with their climate. It does make one wonder what kind of future we would have lived if they were able to flourish and advance without gettin wiped out. When visiting the cenote, I did not expect to see the bats that were living there! We didn’t jump in he water because it smelled, but the water was so clear since it was filtered naturally by the surrounding rocks. And its not a trip if there is a little hiccup, I already had a wound on my foot that I was weary of and got more painful, and my partner got sick halfway through the trip! We got through it though because Cozumel and the paradise vibes were what motivated us to keep our spirits up. And as soon as we got back to the states we went to urgent care lol. Thank goodness for local pharmacies in Mexico. The sunsets were amazing and the people who lived in the touristy areas were so nice. It is very tourist-heavy, more so than Isla Mujeres, but I didn’t think it was too terrible. Another thing we were able to do was visit a swampy area where the freshwater meets the seawater, and there were crocodiles! I didn’t even know they lived there. We also learned that Cozumel is one of the least developed islands and most of it is covered jungle swamp-like terrain. There was so much wildlife, birds and fish were not even afraid of people; they would just swim up and fly right next to you. I am looking forward to my next Caribbean trip as I am learning that I like the paradise like vibes of vacationing.
